The figures above are Velotric's MSRP, which is what we quote throughout the site. This bike was discounted when we last looked, and sale prices move faster than we rebuild — so treat it as an observation with a date, not a live price. We also don't know whether our code stacks on top of a Velotric sale; Velotric's terms say exclusions may apply, so check the total before you pay.

We have not ridden this bike. This is a price and specification page, not a review. Every figure below comes from Velotric's own published specification — we don't own the bike, and we won't pretend otherwise. Where a figure is missing it's because Velotric doesn't publish it.

A 450 lb published payload on a $1,499 folding bike is an unusual combination, and it is why the Fold 1 Plus keeps coming up whenever a larger rider asks what they should buy. Folding bikes are normally where weight limits get low — a hinge in the middle of the frame and 20-inch wheels are not how you would design for load — so a manufacturer stating 450 lb for one is a real claim rather than a rounded-up default. Add a 750W motor, a 68-mile claimed range and The Inertia’s Best Overall Folding Ebike of 2025, and you have the folder we point people at first. It shares its $1,499 MSRP with the standard Fold 1 and the Tempo, and sits $350 above the cheapest bike Velotric makes, the $1,099 Fold 1 Lite.

What Velotric doesn't publish for this model

Weight · Top speed · Motor torque in Nm · Battery capacity in Wh · Folded dimensions · Sensor type. We looked for these and couldn't source them, so they're blank rather than estimated. If you need one to decide, ask Velotric for it in writing before you buy.

Who this bike is for

Buy it if

  • You are a heavier rider and want a published figure rather than a guess
  • You need the bike to fold for a flat, a train, a car boot or an RV
  • You want the most claimed range of any Velotric folder (68 miles against the Fold 1’s 55)
  • You want the best load-per-dollar in our whole catalogue

Look elsewhere if

  • You are near the top of the range rather than the middle: at 450 lb total, a 300 lb rider has 150 lb left, which is tight once you add a rack and panniers
  • You need to lift the folded bike often — the Tempo’s published 39 lb is the lighter answer
  • You ride rough ground. Front suspension only, and small wheels transmit more
  • You need the highest limit available: the Nomad 2X publishes 560 lb

Frequently asked questions

What is the weight limit of the Velotric Fold 1 Plus?

Velotric publishes 450 lb (204 kg) as the payload. That is a total — you, your clothing, the rack, panniers and cargo combined — not a rider-only limit. A 300 lb rider therefore has about 150 lb of headroom.

Fold 1 or Fold 1 Plus?

Both list at $1,499. The Plus claims 68 miles against the Fold 1’s 55 and publishes the 450 lb payload where the Fold 1 publishes none. At the same list price the Plus is the clear pick; the only reason to take the Fold 1 is that it is often discounted to around $1,299 and the Plus usually isn’t. We’ve compared them row by row.

How much is the Velotric Fold 1 Plus?

The MSRP is $1,499, or $1,439 with our code REF602492, and Velotric was selling it for $1,449 when we last checked. That puts it among the joint second-cheapest Velotrics alongside the Fold 1 and the Tempo; the $1,099 Fold 1 Lite is the only cheaper one.

Is a folding bike strong enough for a heavy rider?

This one publishes 450 lb, so Velotric says yes for it specifically — but don’t generalise from that to folders as a class. Fiido’s D11 folder, for instance, publishes 120 kg (about 265 lb), because it is built to be light enough to carry at 19.5 kg and lightness and load capacity pull against each other. Always check the figure for the exact model.

How heavy is the Fold 1 Plus?

Velotric doesn’t publish a weight for it, which is a real gap on a folding bike — the whole point of a folder is often that you lift it. If you need to carry rather than just store the bike, the Tempo publishes 39 lb and is the documented choice.

Our take

For most people reading about e-bikes for heavier riders, this is the pick, purely on arithmetic: you get 80% of the Nomad 2X’s load rating for 62% of the price. Sixty-eight claimed miles is strong for a folder, and the fact that Velotric publishes the payload at all puts it ahead of almost everything else at this price, because competitors mostly stay silent. Two things to weigh. If you are at the top of the weight range rather than the middle, remember that 450 lb is a total — rider, clothes, rack, panniers, shopping — so a 300 lb rider has 150 lb of headroom, fine for a commute and a backpack and tight for a full load. And a folding hinge on 20-inch wheels gives a loaded bike more stress points than a rigid 26-inch frame, so have the wheels checked for trueness after the first few hundred miles. That is cheap maintenance, not a reason to avoid the bike.
